Air Conditioning Installation for Antenatal Scanning Rooms at a South-East Hospital

Scope
Oceanair recently supported one of our long-standing mechanical services partners by advising on and supplying a hospital air conditioning system for the antenatal scanning rooms at a leading South-East hospital. The project required careful planning and coordination to deliver a reliable healthcare HVAC solution within a live clinical environment.
Our mechanical services partner was initially approached by a main contractor to tender for the design and installation of air conditioning in a hospital setting, specifically within the antenatal department. From the early stages of the project, Oceanair worked closely with their team to ensure the correct VRV air conditioning system and equipment were selected for the brief.

Having previously collaborated with Oceanair, the service provider knew they could rely on specialist technical expertise and support during the tender process. During this stage, Oceanair's engineers reviewed the project requirements and attended site where necessary to identify the most suitable Daikin VRV system and system configuration for the space.
Solution
The final solution incorporated Daikin VRV FXAQ-A wall-mounted fan coil units, paired with a Daikin VRV4 Heat Recovery condenser, delivering efficient, simultaneous heating and cooling across multiple zones - ideal for hospital air conditioning applications where precise temperature control is essential.

To further enhance system flexibility and reliability, Daikin multi-tenancy boards were installed. The boards support separate 24VAC power supplies, ensuring continued operation even if the main power supply is interrupted - an important feature in critical healthcare environments.
As the project evolved, Oceanair continued to support the contractor with technical guidance, adapting to scope changes and contributing to a successful tender outcome.
Feedback
Our partner highlighted the importance of collaboration during the project:
“We were approached by a main contractor to tender for the supply and installation of air conditioning within the antenatal scanning rooms at Medway Hospital. This was a design and install by the contractor. Having used Kat and Oceanair on previous works, I knew they would be the right people to work with in this tender and from the start were willing to attend site and ensure we had the right units and system to work as asked. Over the next few weeks and various changes we were awarded the contract. Without Oceanair’s dedication and commitment to customer service, I’m sure we wouldn’t have been the chosen contractor.”
Healthcare environments demand robust, efficient, and precisely controlled HVAC systems. This project demonstrates how early collaboration and expert specification can deliver a reliable commercial air conditioning installation in complex operational settings.
Oceanair is proud to support contractors delivering high-quality HVAC solutions for hospitals, ensuring comfortable, controlled environments for patients and healthcare professionals.
