Who Should Attend?

This Level 3 qualification is designed for Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and Heat Pump (RACHP) engineers who work with flammable gases and want to develop their professional skills.

Approved by the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry Board (ACRIB), this short, nationally recognised, regulated course gives engineers a thorough understanding of Health & Safety requirements when handling flammable refrigerants. It covers safe practices for planning, installing, commissioning, and decommissioning RACHP equipment, helping engineers work confidently and safely with these gases.

What to expect

This one day course will give learners the confidence and expertise to:

  • Recognise the different flammability classifications according to legislation, relevant safety standards (BS EN 378, ISO 5149, BS EN 60335), and manufacturer guidance.
  • Be aware of key health and safety requirements when working with flammable refrigerants.
  • Understand the legal and organisational procedures for the safe installation, servicing, maintenance, and decommissioning of RACHP systems.
  • Identify the distinctions between refrigerant types across various RACHP systems.
  • Know how to plan and prepare effectively for tasks on RACHP systems.
  • Understand the requirements for correctly installing and testing RACHP equipment.
  • Be able to carry out servicing and maintenance on RACHP systems safely and efficiently.
  • Understand the correct procedures for decommissioning RACHP systems.

This course ensures engineers gain the knowledge and practical guidance to work safely and confidently with flammable refrigerants throughout the lifecycle of RACHP equipment.

Pre-Requisites: (Learners must hold and evidence)

    Learners must hold a valid F-Gas Category 1 or 2 certificate. To be accepted:

    • BESA and LCL Awards certificates must have been issued within the last 5 years.
    • City & Guilds 2079 certificates must have been issued in 2015 or later.

    This ensures participants have up-to-date qualifications before attending the course.
